Toon Kortooms Park
A versatile park in the middle of De Peel
Are you interested in famous writers? Or do you like nature? Then be sure to visit Toon Kortooms Park. The park is named after the well-known writer who lived here with his family for many years at the beginning of the 20th century. Besides a museum about his work, you will find a peat field, barefoot path, art garden and a restaurant in this park. You have the opportunity here to spend a whole day in nature reserve De Peel, just 15 minutes away from De Schatberg.
A Brabant experience
At Toon Kortooms Park there is a museum about the life of this famous writer. In this cosy but conveniently arranged museum, you can see where Toon Kortooms got his inspiration for his famous books. You will find various manuscripts, including of his bestseller Beekman & Beekman, writing utensils and other curiosities. You can also take a look in the writer's study.
Next to the museum you will find the Barefoot Path, where you will encounter various natural surfaces that stimulate and massage your feet. You will encounter all kinds of experiences here, such as a rope bridge, mud ditch and a watchtower. At Toon Kortooms Park you will also have the opportunity to see a demonstration of peat cutting in the specially created peat field. The demonstration shows how peat was cut in the past with the help of a turf hut and an old peat press.
De Veenderij
When you think of North Brabant, you probably think of the Burgundian way of life. And that's what you enjoy in the restaurant, located on the park. This is a self-service restaurant with 65 to 70 seats and a spacious terrace. From the restaurant, you have a wonderful view of visitors' adventures on the Barefoot Path. The restaurant uses daily fresh local produce, some of which is even grown in the park. You can also book various packages, such as a high tea. Also be sure to visit the Peelreus Proeflokaal, where you can taste the delicious beer from the Peel, at a bar built from elements of Toon Kortooms' old car.
Entrance to Toon Kortooms Park
You have free access to the park, but there is an entrance fee for the museum (€3.50 p.p.), the Barefoot Path (€5 p.p.) and the Turf Stitching (price depends on the package you choose).
